Tamarindo, Costa Rica - The Largest of the Small Beach Towns
Even though Tamarindo is a known local travel hub, it's still just a small town with only three commercial streets! Because its surrounding towns are even smaller, you might call it the "largest of the small towns." Tamarindo is a beach town on the northwestern coast of Costa Rica in the Province of Guanacaste, and conveniently located near major tourism attractions. In addition, it's within 20-30-minutes away from other interesting beach towns, each with it's own charm. It's a perfect destination for those wanting a centrally located beach to reduce driving time. During the winter season, Tamarindo has warm dry weather, perfect for those wanting to thaw out. Its beautiful beaches are the perfect answer for cold winters!
Here one can walk most anywhere, and many visitors and even some residents, don't even rent or own a car! In spite of its small size, it's still one of the most vibrant, colorful and creative towns in Costa Rica. It's unique, fun, exotic and free-spirited that makes one feel they've traveled somewhere really different. It has a blend of native people, international residents and visitors from around the world, all here to get away as they mentally and physically escape into a small town in Costa Rica.
Featured in the Movies!
Every since it was featured in the classic surfing movie, "Endless Summer II", Tamarindo has been a "can't miss" vacation destination in Costa Rica. Since then, it has grown into the largest of the small towns, and just the right size for those wanting to stay in a small town, but still have plenty of activities. Depending on your viewpoint, Tamarindo Costa Rica could seem larger because, if you include the surrounding towns the number of available accommodations jumps to the thousands. Of course, there are all kinds of accommodations from small hotels to luxury all inclusive.
What is Going On?
To help you get started, we have an Events Section showing you recurring activities. And, there is more going on than even we know, so when you get here, just take a walk and visit with the people on the street. You'll find most everyone unbelievably friendly, and the the people you meet may just become your best vacation memories! Another real advantage is that most everything is within easy walking distance. So, "ditch" that rental vehicle and roam the streets and do some people-watching. Choose from a wide assortment of activities.
Want to take a tour? Visit an action packed ranch near a volcano? In addition to the Arenal, we have one just 2-hours from Tamarindo? When you want to visit the rain forests, volcanoes, or the zip lines of Arenal, make Tamarindo Costa Rica your hub destination. For it's the perfect place for those wanting to spend more time at the beach, not on the road. Your vacation time is limited and Tamarindo's central location in Guanacaste Costa Rica helps you make the most of it.
